The Website Update 2020

The Website Update

Author: Takura Sibanda

Date: 1st June 2020

“At the beginning of April 2020, I took on the responsibility for leading an overhaul update of the website you are looking at today as a UX Developer/ Iteration Lead.

I formed a web team with the help of the longest serving member of Enactus Teesside John. I recruited key personnel for the big job like Jozeene, Tatenda, Vishak, and Liam. In the initial stages we set out on learning how the website worked and gathered the information and images necessary to for the website update.

Once we learnt what platform we would be using to do the development and had collected all the necessary information we set out a plan to complete changes using a Kanban Board in Trello. We have now designed and published all of the pages.

I wanted to congratulate and  thank the team for all their efforts.  I am proud I have learnt a new skill that I am sure to utilise in future.

The final website was assessed by our debutant QAs Nora and Liam.”

Date: 14th May 2020

During the academic year the Enactus Teesside team enrolled in the Amazon Campus challenge with the hope of developing e-commerce skills and supporting a business launch their products. The amazon Campus Challenge is a competition that enabled young entrepreneurs with the opportunity of supporting a local business sell the products on Amazon.

The team identified Bowe Organics a beauty cosmetics company based in Darlington, UK who sell organic lip balm and lash oils . The team began working Bowe in early October when they were planning out how they could work together and the best way to get Bowe Organics onto Amazon.

The journey was interesting as both parties learnt the dynamics of Amazon and the documentation required to successfully create a seller platform on Amazon.

Eventually after submitting all the required and  completing all the required steps.

The team successfully setup  a seller platform for Bowe Organics and sales launched on the 13th of January 2020. A huge congratulations goes out to Takura, Funso & Kenrick for remaining committed and innovative throughout the journey.

The team presented current projects Re-Serve & Mutual and all the other amazing activities completed that Enactus year. Teesside were joined by other North and East Central Enactus teams like Northumbria, Hull, York, Sheffield, and  others.

The day overall was very enlightening as the team received valuable feedback on the presentation and annual report.

The following week however we learnt that we would not be going ahead to nationals which marked the end of the Enactus year.

Looking back at the year the team got involved in a lot of activities which expanded the team’s growth and its member base.  We can all be exceptionally proud of the extraordinary effort and energy put into Enactus this year. We will bounce back next year.

A key part of maintaining the momentum in an Enactus team is the constant process of recruiting new members.

Throughout the Enactus year the Teesside team proactively attended and presented Enactus in lectures in schools across the university.

A big well-done goes out to the team for putting themselves out there and pushing their development of presenting and interacting with big crowds.

The lecture shout-outs were fruitful in the recruitment of new members and they aided members of the presentation team get much needed practice.
